The gang is all looking forward to graduation or the end of school and vacation!

Congrats To—
All those who are graduating from grammar, Junior High, High School, or College and best of luck in the future.

Paul Kaufman who won first place in the Porterfield Essay Contest in San Diego High School and Sherry Newman who was recently elected Vice-President of the Cardinal Coeds at Hoover High!

Party Time--

Singing songs as they jogged along in the hay wagon at the hay ride party given by Joan Breitbard, Adrian Sachnoff and Maxine Schoenkopf were a huge group of gals ‘n guys.  Following the hayride, everyone danced ‘n site and had a fabulous time!

Happy birthday to a Sweet Sixteen.  That gives you an idea of the theme of the party that was enjoyed by Beverly Kitaen and her guests.  The party included luscious food, dancing and a terrific time for everyone.  Happy birthday, Beverly.

The boys had a wonderful time staging it at Neil Kleinman’s birthday party.  First, the guys had dinner followed by a show.  Happy birthday, Neil!

Little miss Linda Carroll celebrated her birthday with a party with lots of food and fun for her friends.  Many happy returns Linda.

The Beth Jacob Youth League has planned a really keen “Platter Party” on Saturday, June 13, from 8:00-11:00 at the Beth Jacob Center as reported to me by Ronnie Doctor, publicity chairman.  Be sure to be there!

USO-JWB Awards Night

The San Diego Armed Services Committee of the USO-National Jewish Welfare Board (JWB) will hold its annual Volunteer Awards Presentation on Wednesday, June 17th at 8 p.m., at Temple Beth Israel, it was announced by Henry Weinberger, chairman.  The public is invited to attend.

This gala event, co-chaired by Morris W. Douglas and Harry Mallen, will honor the men, women and organizations of the Jewish community of San Diego and the Oceanside area for their manifold services to the armed forces during the past six months.  Following the presentation of awards, a program of entertainment and dancing, headed by the American Jewish star of stage, radio and recordings, Mickey Katz, will ensue.

The USO-JWC Gold Seal certificate highest honor possible will be presented to the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary and Post No. 185.  Both organizations, working in concert, have executed 56 programs at Naval Training Center since Nov. 1, 1952.  Along with this busy schedule, the Auxiliary has sponsored a monthly party at the Naval Hospital and an on-going weekly bedside visitation program, bearing gifts and other items of cheer.

The USO-JWB Silver certificate will be awarded to the Bay City B’nai B’rith Women, for their monthly program, executed and completely financed by the chapter.  A Blue Seal certificate will be presented to the Birdie Stodel B’nai B’rith women for its monthly program to the military as well as its Naval Hospital activity.

USO-JWB Red Seal certificates will be awarded to Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood, Congregation Beth Jacob Sisterhood, Hadassah, Pioneer Women Home for the Aged, Daughters of Israel, Lasker Lodge, B’nai B’rith, Jolly Sixteen, Council of Jewish Women and the United Jewish Fund.

Fifty-one awards will be presented to individuals for outstanding effort and participation in the success of the USO-JWB program.  Included in this category are Mesdames Rose Neumann, Anna Shelley, Maurice Levy, Rose Queen, Tom Turner, Julia Greben, Sidney Newman, Joseph Spatz, Morton Furst, David Frank, Eugene Sacks, Maurice Ackerman, Alfred Bobrof, Marvin Bobrof, Jennie Drogin, Bernard Godes, Sydney Goldstein, Arthur Guyer, Joe Kaplan, Dorie Kellner, Perry Leener, Paul Moss, Simon Reisman, and Harry Wax.

Also, Messrs. Elmer Glaser, Milton Fredman, Joseph Spatz and USO-JWB chairman, Henry Weinberger.

Jr. Hostesses who have compiled more than 50 hours of service include Judy Cohen, Nona Cohen, Selma Cohen, Marion Feinberg, Sandra Flax, Pauline Frankel, Edith Fuchsman, Lenore Goldstein, Bunny Goodman, Audrey Greenberg, Cecille Oglesby, Ada Picaisen, Della Rubin and Sandra Schissell.

Military officials too will be honored for their continued personal interest and cooperation, including retired Vice Admiral John W. Roper, Maj. Gen. John T. Walker, Rear Admiral Thornton C. Miller, Capt. Frank Monroe, and Commander Harris W. Howe.

Dance music will be provided by Tommy McDonalds orchestra and refreshments will be served under the supervision of Mrs. Neumann.
