SAN DIEGO (Press Release)-- United Jewish Federation reports that the $6.2 million raised during its fiscal year 2009 campaign was 15 percent below the amount raised in Fiscal Year 2008. Even though the Federation trimmed staff and programs in response to the shortfall, it says it still must appeal for new funds from the community "to fill the gap between requests for our community's need s and the funding to meet them."

In calling for contributions, a UJF circular said that "our rabbis teach that great light emergees from darkness--and we know that tremendous opportunties will flow from these challenging times."

It asked people to make a donation to the Federation by calling (858) 571-3444, Ext. 8226, or by visiting itw website, www.jewishinsandiego.org
