Southwestern Jewish Press June 26, 1953 Page 7

Sunday, December 13, 1953 was set as the date of the United Jewish Fund Annual Meeting at the June board meeting of the directors.  David Block will head the committee in charge of the Annual Meeting.

Murray D. Goodrich, president of the fund, announced the selection of Victor Schulman, past president of the Fund as Chairman of the Nominating committee.  Other committees announced at the Board meeting are the Fund-Bond Relationship Committee, headed by Sol Price; Finance Committee headed by Harry Snyder; and a Negotiating committee headed by Milton Y. Roberts.

At the same board meeting a request for a $100.00 allocation for the Cottage of Israel was approved.

Appeals from many of the forty-two beneficiaries of the Fund, including B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the United Jewish Appeal, the City of Hope, Jewish War Veterans and the National Jewish Welfare Board have been coming to the Fund office, Harry Snyder, treasurer, reported.  He urges everyone that has made a pledge to pay that pledge now and continues to urge those who have not pledged as yet to make their pledges immediately so that these organizations and others may be helped at this time.
Contributions may be mailed to the office of the United Jewish Fund, 333 Plaza, Suite 301, San Diego, Calif.

Going to Los Angeles?

Southwestern Jewish Press, June 26, 1953 Page 7

The Jewish residents of San Diego will be interested to know that there is now a 40 room hotel (under Jewish ownership) that is located in the Jewish portion of the western section of Los Angeles.

The Crescent Heights Hotel is ideally located in the central “Miracle Mile.” Jewish restaurants as well as famous Restaurant Row, Farmers’ Market, and C.B.S. Television City are all within walking distance.

There are moderate daily rates and special weekly rates available.  There is complete switchboard service and television and radio broadcast tickets are available in the lobby.  All of the rooms are strictly modern, attractive, and comfortable.

$25,000 Needed
To Close Campaign

Southwestern Jewish Press June 26, 1953 Page 8

In an attempt to reach the goal of minimum needs for the beneficiary agencies of the United Jewish Fund, campaign workers are still plugging away to bring the last $25,000.00 into the fold before closing the campaign, according to campaign chairmen, Carl M. Esenoff and Milton Y. Roberts.

The campaign can be successfully concluded "if the 200 prospective contributors who have promised the workers that they will make their pledge keep their word immediately,” the Chairmen said.

With over $25,000 still to be brought in, workers are appealing to all those who have delayed making their contribution to make it immediately.

While the campaign continues plans for completion for the twenty-five member allocation committee are under way, according to Morris Douglas, who has been selected as the committee’s chairman.

Additional members of the committee selected from organizations which have done an outstanding job in the 1953 campaign, are Stanley Yukon, Jewish War Veterans; Mrs. Harold Garvin, B’nai B’rith Chapters; Jack Spatz, B’nai B’rith Lodges; Veterans Auxiliary; Mrs. Zel Camiel, City of Hope; Sol Goodman, Labor Zionists; and Mrs. Gabriel Berg, National Council of Jewish Women.

Eight additional places on the Allocations Committee will be filled within the next week, according to the Chairman.
