Family Kabbalat Shabbat service set for Sept. 4 at Ohr Shalom

SAN DIEGO—Little tykes not always paying attention during a service, sometimes wandering around the sanctuary to explore? It’s okay, welcome in fact, at Family Kabbalat Shabbat services 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 4,  at Ohr Shalom Synagogue, 2512 Third Avenue.

Rabbi Scott Meltzer, the congregation’s spiritual leader, said content of the service will be geared for families with infants and children through the ages of 12.

Furmansky to guest as cantor at Ohr Shalom’s Selichot services

SAN DIEGO—Cantor Joseph Furmansky will be the special guest at Selichot services at 8:30 p.m., Saturday evening, September 12, at Congregation Ohr Shalom, 2512 Third Avenue, San Diego.

The Conservative congregation plans in succession a Havdalah service, Ma’ariv service, special Selichot prayers and a dessert reception.   Also plaques installed on Ohr Shalom’s memorial board over the past year will be unveiled in a commemorative ceremony.

Ohr Shalom announces High Holiday service schedule

SAN DIEGO—Ohr Shalom Synagogue, a Conservative congregation, has announced its schedule of services for the High Holy Days.  Arrangements to purchase tickets may be made with the synagogue office at (619) 231-1494.  The services will be held in the sanctuary of the congregation at 2512 Third Avenue, San Diego.

The schedule is:

Friday, September 18 –Erev Rosh Hashanah – 7:15 p.m.
Saturday, September 19-Rosh Hashanah, 1st day – 8:30 a.m.
Sunday, September 20 – Rosh Hashana 2nd day – 8:30 a.m.
Sunday, September 20 – Tashlich Serrices at Playa Pacifica, Mission Bay—4 p.m .

Sunday, September 27 – Erev Yom Kippur – 3:30 p.m. Family Kol Nidre Service; 6 p.m. Kol Nidre.
Monday September 28 – Yom Kippur – 8:30 a.m. Service with Yizkor; 5 p.m. Mincha & Ne’ilah; Break The Fast, 7:27 p.m.

Some sale items at Ohr Shalom

SAN DIEGO—Ohr Shalom is a synagogue, not a department store, but the Conservative congregation does have an  interesting variety of goods and services for sale.

For example, it’s offering Entertainment Books—filled with discount coupons for $40; lower box seats to the San Diego Padres games for $32 a pair; a box of 72 Shabbat candles for $8, and they even have for sale—at a variety of prices—grave plots on the Ohr Shalom Lawn at the Home of Peace Cemetery.
