Obituary: Raymond Federman, 81, Holocaust survivor and author

How you and JFS can share holidays with less fortunate

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)The Holiday season is quickly approaching. For many of us, the holidays are a joyous time. A time for family, presents, good food...

But for others, the holidays are just an added financial stress. "How am I going to pay for a Thanksgiving dinner when I can't even afford a healthy breakfast for my family?"

"How can I buy my children presents when I can't even get them all of the school supplies they need?"

You can help make a difference for a family in need this holiday season. Support Jewish Family Service's Thanksgiving Food Packages Program and Embrace-A-Family and ensure everyone has a reason to celebrate.

Here are several ways you can get involved with JFS holiday programs:

*Thanksgiving Food Program— Help a family in need enjoy a Thanksgiving Dinner! JFS will be providingmore than 750 Thanksgiving packages to families in need, including
items to make their own Thanksgiving dinner and $10 grocery gift cards to supplement the cost of a turkey. Donate Online>>

*Donate $10 gift cards for Albertson's, Ralph's or Vons to help supplement the cost of purchasing a turkey or make a monetary donation online by clicking here.

(Cards can be mailed to JFS Hand Up Youth Food Pantry at the JFS Turk Family Center - 8804 Balboa Ave., San Diego, CA 92123.)

* Hold a Thanksgiving food drive at your business, organization, school, or neighborhood. JFS is collecting canned pumpkin, packaged gravy, muffin mix, canned vegetables, canned cranberries, stuffing mix, and more. For help starting and marketing your food drive, call the Hand Up Youth Food Pantry at (858) 637-3088.

* Embrace-A-Family-- Help a family in need celebrate Hanukkah or Christmas this December! Each year individuals, families, and groups in the community adopt families in need and provide them with gifts to fulfill their holiday
wish lists. This year we expect to provide gifts to more than 400 families! Donate Online>>

* Become an embracer. Embracers are matched with a family in need and provide toys, clothes, food, gift certificates and more for the family. We'll provide you with a description of the family and their holiday wish lists. This is a great opportunity for community groups, organizations, businesses, families, individuals, and more! * Make a monetary donation online to allow us to purchase gifts for families who are not embraced. Donate Online>>

Please forward this email to your family and friends and encourage them to get involved in our holiday programs as well. With the current economic crisis, we are expecting to serve more people than ever before this holiday season. You can help us make a difference. Thank you for your support.
