Rebbetzin Nechama Eilfort of Chabad of La Costa took a special interest in an article by Mark Halawa, a former Muslim, about the circumstances that led him to become a practicing Jew. Her uncle, Retired Philosophy Prof. Yitzhak Block of London, Ontario, was the gentle teacher who set Halawa on his spiritual path.


Rabbi Ben Kamin has a new book being published by Michigan State University Press. Now in the proofreading stage, it is called Nothing Like Sunshine: A Black-Jewish Friendship in the Aftermath of the MLK Assassination.

Jewish-interest Sunday TV News Shows —Sen. Bernie Sanders (Independent-Vermon) will appear on ABC's "This Week"; Sen. Carl Levin, (Democrat, Michigan) will appear on CBS's "Face The Nation" and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, now a Middle East negotiator, will appear on CNN's 'State of the Union."

 

Phil Snyder wants to make certain that people interested in Jewish outreach to intermarried couples--as well as couples who are thinking of intermarrying--are aware that they are invited to a hear a national expert on the topic, Rabbi Charles Simon, next Shabbat, December 5, at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 6660 Cowles Mountain Blvd.


Yochanan Winston has a CD out called Chamsin, which he offers as a salute to all peoples of the Middle East in the hope of reconciliation. Some of the instruments he plays on the CD are a duduk, shvi, bloul, Kotato-Fukushim bass flute, a 14K gold Brannen-Cooper flute and a Selmer Super Action Series II black lacquered soprano sax with a Selmer E mouthpiece and Hemke #3 reeds.
