United
Jewish Federation is appealing for volunteers to staff the telephones from 9
a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 30, during its "Super Sunday"
phonathon. Two hundred more volunteers are needed to fill
six shifts over the course of the 10-hour event, which is themed "Working
as One," according to Lori Mathios, UJF marketing director.
"Given the increasing challenges to meet the urgent needs of our community,
we are striving to raise the awareness of how campaign dollars work," said
Robin Weiner, Super Sunday co-chair. "Most people don't realize the
extent to which Federation's campaign achievement impacts the vitality and
future of our community. Each and every gift, no matter how large or
small, has the power to deliver help, hope and dignity to those in need, not
only here in San Diego, but in Israel, and in Jewish communities around the
world."
Besides staffing telephones, some volunteers are needed for various clerical
tasks, Mathios said.
"This year, there will be amazing raffle prizes, including JCC 3-month
memberships and JCC Film Festival tickets" for the volunteers, she added.
A day later, teens will participate in a Magic Monday follow-up phonathon from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. Teen volunteers are sought for that event as well.
Prospective volunteers should contact Rachel de Quesada either at (858) 571-3444
or by emailing her via racheld@unfsd.org
