As retold by
Bruce Lowitt
It's the middle of the night. Goldie wakes up and finds her husband Melvin
pacing the floor.
"What's wrong, honey?"
"Sam, your cousin. I borrowed a thousand dollars from him. It's due in the
morning and I don't have the money. I don't know what I'm going to do."
Goldie picks up he phone, and dials Sam's number, waking him.
"What!" he yells into the phone. "Who is this? It's three in the
morning. Can't this wait?"
Goldie says, "Sammy, you know the thousand dollars my Melvin owes you? He
doesn't have it."
Then she slams down the phone and tells her husband, "Now you go to sleep and let him pace the floor."
