As retold by
Bruce Lowitt
An elderly man cleaning the attic comes upon his old Army jacket, which he
hasn't seen since the end of World War II. He goes through his pockets and finds
a ticket stub that reads, "Hymie the shoemaker."
He recalls that a few days before he shipped out, he'd brought a pair of shoes
to be re-soled. He wonders, after more than 60 years, does the shop even exist?
So he strolls to the middle of town and there it is. Amazing.
He goes in and even more amazing, Hymie is still behind the counter.
The man pulls out the stub and, handing it to the shoemaker, says, "This is
going to sound crazy, but a while back I brought in a pair of shoes to be
resoled."
Hymie looks at the stub and says, "Come back Tuesday."
