Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle today
(Thursday, Jan. 27) ordered all state flags to be flown at half-staff until the
last of the 31 troops killed in Wednesday’s helicopter accident in Iraq are
laid to rest. Twenty-seven of
the dead were based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii-Kaneohe Bay. “The hearts of the people of Hawai`i and across America are
heavy and full of sorrow as we mourn the loss of the marines and sailor who were
killed in yesterday’s tragic helicopter accident,” the governor said in a
statement issued by her office in Honolulu. |
