Honoree
Joseph Kader
(August 9, 1899—January 12, 1991)
Honored by Bud & Harriet Kader, San
Diego, California, August 13, 2005
My father, Joseph Joshua Kader, gave up a promising
vaudeville career to help his parents and siblings when they needed him. That's
the way Joe was. For 91 years he was a bright eternal light to all who knew him.
To his synagogue, Tifereth Israel, for over 65 years his perpetual sense of
humor and cheerful demeanor buoyed people up and gave faith to those who needed
it. Two years before his death when asked why his attitude was always up and
what motivated him to be such a great storyteller and entertainer, he replied,
"when I leave a room I want people to be happier than when I entered
it." If we envision the earth as the largest of rooms, Joe lived his credo
and succeeded in his mission far beyond his dreams. He was a tireless
worker for his synagogue, always cooking, donating food and equipment, repairing
almost anything at all hours or helping people who couldn't get to and from schule
by running a "pro bono" chauffeur service. Joe was the financial
secretary at Tifereth Israel for several years and told people he was a CPA,
which he obtained through his many years in the men's clothing business. He then
explained that the CPA designation stood for "Cleaning, Pressing &
Alterations." He was a member of the board of directors, a founder of the
Men's Club, Minyonaires and a fundraiser par excellence through his
creativity and top notch sales skills. His vaudeville and entertainment
background certainly shone through when the choir was embellished with his
gorgeous tenor voice for almost 20 years. Joe Kader was not a macher, but
he "made things happen" by his ethics, virtues and dedication to his
people—Bud Kader, San Diego, Calif., August 13, 2005.
