August 19, 2005—"Congressman Bob
Filner Urges Local Youth to Mobilize to Defeat the Bush Administration’s
Attack on Their Future," News release from Bob Filner for Congress:
San Diego, CA – Congressman Bob Filner will speak at a meeting sponsored by
the San Diego County Young Democrats on Monday, August 22nd, 6:30 p.m., at the
Joyce Beers Community Center in San Diego, to expose the Bush Administration’s
attack on the future of America’s youth. President Bush’s proposal to
privatize Social Security, for example, will not provide a viable safety net for
our next generation of retirees and will impose an additional burden on young
workers to fund such a scheme. “Our
future as a nation is at stake –
and young people can get us back on track. We must speak out on education,
health care, and Social Security. Washington
needs to hear noise!” said Congressman Bob Filner. The San
Diego County Young Democrats (SDCYD) are a local chapter of the California Young
Democrats, the official grassroots youth arm of the California Democratic Party,
representing Democrats under the age of 36 in San Diego County.WHAT:Filner

number of business, political and community leaders including the San Diego
County Mexican American Political Association.” The

November 2005—David Berlin, "Louis Rose Society
Holds Picnic," San Diego Jewish Journal, page 14: The
Jewish settler and entrepreneur Louis Rose played a major role in San Diego's
rapid growth for more than a century. On Sunday, September 25th, the Louis Rose
Society held a picnic to announce the creation of a statue honoring the man who
connected our city to its coastline. Among the more than 100 in attendance were
Louis Rose Society president, Donald
Harrison, U.S. Rep. Bob Filner of
San Diego, Ted Medina of the Parks and Recreation Department, David Watkins of
the San Diego Historical Society, Rabbi
Leonard Rosenthal of the San Diego Rabbinical Association chapter, and
Michael Rassler, Executive Vice President of the United Jewish Federation of San
Diego. The picnic was held at the future sight of the statue in the former Naval
Training Center which is being converted into a public park. The area was
originally laid out and developed by Rose in 1869 when he saw that San Diego,
then located mostly inland had little access to the water. To raise the
money for the statue's construction, the Louis Rose Society is asking for
donations of only $36 from at least 3,000 families. For more information on how

Colleges, Election flyer for November 2005 California election—Silencing
Public Employees Who Will Speak Up? Proposition 75 in Anti-workers. Prop
75 does not protect the rights of public employees. It's an unfair power grab by
big corporations that want to silence the voices of teachers, nurses,
firefighters, police and public workers. Public employees are the leading voices
against deep cuts in education, unsafe working conditions and cuts in healthcare
and public safety. Proposition 75 is backed by powerful corporate
interests. The authors of Prop. 75 are powerful corporate interests who have
committed millions of dollars to passing this initiative. They want to take
working people out of the political process so it will be easier to cut school
spending, privatize public services and increase corporate subsidies.
Proposition 75 Only targets public employees. The non partisan center for
Responsive Politics reports that corporations already outsepend unions by 24
to1. Prop. 75 only restricts public employee unions, it does not limit
corporations. This makes the imbalance worse and tilts the playing field
severely in favor of big corporations. Don't Be Silenced. Vote No On Proposition

Chula

President Robert Hill credits the Congressman’s consistent support among
public safety professionals to “his dedication to safer neighborhoods, and his
willingness to commit the resources to ensure it.” “This
commitment,” Hill added, “is also evident in Congressman Filner’s
unrelenting support of first responders -- the men and women on the front lines
and we back Bob 100%.” On receiving
the endorsement, Congressman Filner said, “The firefighters of Chula
Vista aim for the highest standards of performance, even in the face of a
growing area to protect. I am honored to receive their endorsement
today. I look forward to working with these impressive men and women in
the years to come.” The Chula
Vista Firefighters Local 2180 of the International Association of Fire Fighters

release from Bob Filner for Congress: Veterans’
Vision, a leading national veterans publication supporting homeless and
American veterans, has granted an early endorsement to Congressman Bob
Filner’s 2006 primary bid for re-election over termed out Assemblyman Juan
Vargas. The mission of the nationwide Veterans’
Vision is to focus the dedication and experience of veterans and national
leaders on the challenges currently facing the country. “Congressman
Bob Filner has worked tirelessly on behalf of San Diego and Imperial Valley
Veterans,” said MAJ Brian Hampton USAR (ret), Veterans’
Vision publisher. “Whether it was fighting to improve insurance
benefits for our veterans, or fighting for the needed funding for the Veterans
Administration as a ranking member on the Veterans’ Affairs committee,
Congressman Filner has been an aggressive advocate for veterans and has put
partisanship aside and gone to work for the betterment of California
veterans.” In making its endorsement, Veterans’
Vision brought together its 2006 Electoral Board made up of both
Democrats and Republicans. The board reviewed hundreds of documents, voting
records, and reviewed the candidate’s personal interest and action on
veterans’ issues. “I am honored by this endorsement—as I am reminded
every day of the great sacrifices that our veterans have made for our nation. We
owe a tremendous debt to our men and women in uniform and we must provide them
with the benefits and health care they earned—and deserve!” Congressman
Filner said. Hampton added, “Our selection process was
neither red nor blue, Democrat or Republican. It was simply about who had
done the most for veterans!” Veterans’
Vision has made over 250 endorsements for federal office since the 1996
campaign cycle.
