Brandeis University came to town with the appearance of the able President, Dr. A.L. Sachar the other week. No stranger to San Diego, Dr. Sachar renewed old acquaintances with several of his former students at dinner at the El Cortez Hotel. Brandeis University, the first secular non-sectarian school under Jewish auspices in the United States, joins the ranks of other schools created by religious groups. It deserves the support of all American Jews as a fine venture and noble experiment.

Bond Drive Tempo Increases—The visit of Vice-President Barkley increased the tempo of the Bonds for Israel Campaign under the leadership of Lou Steinman in San Diego. San Diego has demonstrated to the rest of the nation that there can be close cooperation between the Central Community Organization, which sponsors the United Jewish Appeal, and the Bonds for Israel Campaign.  Victor Schulman and Murray D. Goodrich, high Fund officials, are acting as co-sponsors for the Barkley visit. Fund office facilities have been placed at the disposal of the Bonds for Israel. On the other hand, the Bonds for Israel will stop its selling during the period of the organization for and the campaign in 1952.  Both the Bond office and the Fund officials continue to emphasize the fact that Bond purchases are not a substitute for "Free Money" secured through the yearly campaigns of the United Jewish Fund.

Score One Against Racial Prejudice—Stark reality is the best way of describing the picture "The Well" at the Mission Theatre. Courageous movie dealing with racial prejudice, it's really worth going to see. However, don't go to be entertained but go to see a great picture which teaches a fine lesson for all.

Battle of Organizations— Latest explosion on the American Jewish front is the battle of words between the Zionists and the American Jewish Committee. Cleavage was over the resolution adopted by the American Jewish Committee's Executive Committee two weeks ago, opposing Halutziot from the United States and the proposed granting of a charter to the Jewish agency for work in Israel.

Presents $5,000 Check —Rodin Horrow, visiting in New York, presented an additional check for $5,000 from San Diego Jewry to the officers of the United Jewish Appeal last weekend at the extraordinary conference at the Hotel Commodore New York called for the purpose of securing $38,000,000 in cash before the end of the year. Acceleration of cash collection on the 1951 Campaign through the Ida Nasatir meeting made it possible to forward the additional cash bringing San Diego's total to the United Jewish Appeal for 1951 to $107,000. Cash collection at the weekend meeting amounted to $19,000,000 in a thrilling presentation of checks from Welfare Funds throughout the country, according to Horrow.  "Because cash is urgently needed to continue work of the Joint Distribution Committee, the relief and rehabilitation of Jews of Europe, and the immigration of Jews to Israel, the United Palestine Appeal, its assistance to Jews in Israel and in the Camps, and the United Service for New Americans working with newly arrived immigrants within the United States, San Diego's Jewish Fund is going all out on a collection drive during a "Cash Collection Week" in early December, according to Ben Harris, collection Chairman for the Fund.  "Pledges," he said, "are not enough to meet our commitments to overseas, Israel, national and our local Federation Agencies. These pledges must be converted into cash now so that the work of these very vital agencies may continue." Harris urged everyone to pay their pledge now by mailing their check to the United Jewish Fund, 333 Plaza.
