Activities," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 11: ...During the week, the USO—Jewish welfare Board staff visited both Camp Pendleton and Camp Elliott and attended services with Chaplain Sobel at both these stations. Refreshments were served and discussion hour held after the services. Our hospital committee visited the Santa Marguerita camp hospital, and Camp Pendleton, and the Balboa Naval Hospital, bringing gifts and refreshments to all the Jewish patients. Mrs. Mollie Ratner is chairman of this committee, and is assited by Mrs. Sarah Giller...

July 11, 1946—1)"Congregation Tifereth Israel," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: "It was Ratner day last Saturday at Congregation Tifereth Israel as a Jewish name was given to the newly born daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Ratner and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marco Ratner. Great-uncles Nate Ratner and Joe Spatz came especially for the celebration. Kiddush and refreshments were served after the services by the Ratner family and also by Mrs. Shifferson in memory of her husband's Yahrzeit...

2) "Welcome Daughter," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Mr. and Mrs. Seymour J. Ratner of La Mesa announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, on July 4th at Mercy Hospital. The baby weighted 8 lbs 5 1/2 ozs. and is named Sherrill Ann. Grandparents welcoming the baby are Mr. and Mrs. Marco Ratner of La Mesa and Mr. and Mrs. Barney Peikin of Washington, D.C. Sherill Ann is also welcomed by a great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Spatz of San Diego. Mrs. Spatz is Mrs. Ratner Sr.'s mother.

3) "It's a Boy," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Ratner of 4244 Central avenue on July 5th at Mercy Hospital. The baby is being named Milton Richard. He joins his two-year-old sister, Ronna, in the Ratner nursery. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marco Ratner of La Mesa and Mrs. Rovech of San Francisco. Mrs. Mary Spatz of San Diego is his great-grandmother.

4) "Vacationing in New York," (sic) Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Mr. and Mrs. Marco Ratner of Dillon Drive in La Mesa have as houseguests Mrs. Ratner's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Spatz of New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Spatz expect to be in San Diego for a few weeks and many pleasant affairs are being planned for them."

March 6, 1947—"Mary Spatz Dies at Age of 70,"page 5: Mrs. Mary Spatz, a 17-year resident of San Diego, passed away Wednesday, February 26th, at the age of 70 after a brief illness. Mrs. Spatz resided at 4242 Central Avenue. Services were conducted from the Merkeley-Austin Mortuary on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Rabi Ephraim Siegel officiating. Burial was at the Home of Peace Cemetery. An ardent member of the Hebrew Home for the Aged, Mrs. Spatz was also affiliated with the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood. Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Marco Ratner of San Diego, and Mrs. Ann Tax of Alhambra; sons, Herman of New York and Joe M. of San Diego; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

June 19, 1947—"Jewish War Vets," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: The patients at the Naval Hospital were recently presented with three gross of large crystal ashtrays by the Jewish War Veterans auxiliary, whose president is Mrs. Joe M. Spatz. This particular project was supervised by Mrs. Marco M. Ratner, Hospital Chairman, of the organization. The type of each tray presented by the group were especially suited for bed patients since they are so constructed that a cigarette automatically goes out when placed in the tray. The Auxiliary gives monthly parties for the hospitalized service men in the lounge at the Naval Hospital providing food, entertainment and junior hostesses...

Cohn will be the guest speaker at the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood's final meeting of the '48-'49 season. Mrs Sidney Newman, president will preside and the hostesses for the evening will be Mesdames: Sam Moder, Paul Moss, Julius Penn, Milton Pokrass, Frank Pomeranz, Charles Press, Ben Press, Henry Price, Marco Datner (sic Ratner), Woodrow Ratner...

November 1949—"Tifereth Israel Sisterhood," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 5: A hilarious comedy entitled Women in White will be the attraction on the calendar of events for the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood Luncheon to be presented Nov. 10, at 12 o'clock noon at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 30th and Howard Streets. April 28, 1950—"Sisterhood's Kitchen Jamboree," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 9: Tifereth Israel Sisterhood will close its very successful season with a gala luncheon and program at the Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 30th and Howard Streets, on Tuesday, May 9th, at 12 o'clock...(A) novel and hilarious musical variety will be presented. To quote: "The Lettercarriers Auxiliary Kitchen Band and Show is unique in the entertainment world. It gives Kitchen utensils a "lift" into the aesthetic realm of Art and Music." Come and hear this unusal band composed of 18 ladies who have converted the lowliest kitchen gadget into an instrument of rhythm and melody. Mrs. Abe Ratner and Mrs. Monroe Levens are program chairmen who will present this very unusual program for the day's entertainment. November 3, 1950—"J.W.V. Auxiliary," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 9: ...Saturday night 20 hospitalized veterans were guests of the Post and Auxiliary at the football game in Aztec Bowl. Tess Furst and Marshall Starr accompanied the men and served them refreshments. Mollie Ratner and Faye Naliboff visited the Sunshine school Oct. 25 and brought ice cream and cookies for the youngsters...

November 17, 1950—"Jewish War Veterans," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 5: Jewish War Veterans Post 185 is sponsoring a party for hospitalized veterans in the U.S. naval Hospital tubercular ward Tuesday, Nov. 21. Approximately 220 patients are served at these monthly affairs. Hospital Chairman Jean Spatz will be in charge. Child Welfare Chairman Mollie Ratner, Bea Apelman and ann Cantor visited the Sunshine School, Nov. 15 and served the children ice cream and homemade cookies. Apple jusice and sauce were also brought. These are used in the diets of the children...

December 15, 1950—"Jewish War Veterans And Auxiliary," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 7: Hurry! Hurry! Hurry The Jewish War Veterans Post No. 185 and Auxiliary have a gala New Years Eve Dinner Dance arranged for your pleasure. Food galore...Favors..Noisemakers..Exchange Hall, 30th at Meade, is the place...Dancing til?...Due to the size of the hall, reservations will be limited to 150. For additional information, call Joe Spatz at Talbot 4739. A Chanukah and Christmas ward party is being planned by Hospital Chairman Jean Spatz and her committee for the patients in the U.S. Naval Hospital tubercular ward. Special holiday goodies (baked by the Auxiliary Sisters), novel games and an appropriate gift for each of the 220 veterans will be some of the highlights of the evening, Tuesday, December 19th. Also, in keeping with the holiday season, Child Welfare Chairman Mollie Ratner has planned a party for the children in Sunshine School. She will bring them home made cookies and ice cream. They, too, will receive gifts. The Auxiliary is holding a Rummage Sale Wednesday, December 20th, and would appreciate your donation of discarded articles, in good condition. Please phone Talbot 6438 to have your bundle picked up. Due to the holiday season, there will not be a social meeting for December. The next business meeting will be Monday, January 15, 1951, in Veterans War Memorial Bldg.

January 5, 1951—"Jewish War Veterans," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 8: The Jewish War Veterans Post. No. 185 Auxiliary sponsored a Chanukah and Christmas party in the U.S. Naval Hospital tuberculosis ward for 220 patients. Hospital Chairman Jean Spatz was in charge of arrangements. Child Welfare Chairman Mollie Ratner, Ann Perlmutter and Freda Nestor brought home-made cookies and refreshments to the children in Sunshine School. Each child also received a Christmas gift from the ladies. The New Year's Eve affair, held at Exchange Hall, was a huge success. Everyone present agreed that "a good time was had by all."...

January 19, 1951—"Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 5: "Through the efforts of Jewish War Veterans Post No. 185 Auxiliary, Cantor Brothers donated a deep freeze to the children of Sunshine School. Mrs. Ann Cantor and President Esther Levitt made the presentation to Mrs. Eva L. Ritchie, school principal. The freezer will enable the school to have additional ice cream and fruit juices on hand so that the youngsters can have them more often. Child Welfare Chairman Mollie Ratner has planned a monthly party for the children and will bring them ice cream and cookies Wednesday...

Sec'y; Lorry Cantor, Financial Sec'y; Sara Shelley, Treas; Warren Ogelsby, Parliamentarian; S. Frank, Auditor. May 11, 1951—"Jewish War Veterans," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 9: A May Day Party was sponsored by the Jewish War Veterans Post No. 185 Auxiliary for 55 youngsters in the Sunshine School. Child Welfare Chairman Mollie Ratner and Jean Spatz brought a case of applesauce which is used for the spastic children. The children enjoyed the candy, ice cream and cookies that were baked by Sister Faye Naliboff...

May 25, 1951—"S.D. Hebrew Home for the Aged Aux," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Preparations have been completed for the May Day Luncehon, to be held on Tuesday, May 29th.
