"Founding Benefactors, The Viterbi Family Foundation," page 3: Erna and Andrew Viterbi and their family are stong supporters of the Jewish community and have an interest in all facets of Jewish life. Their love for education has been demonstrated through the Viterbi Family Torah School of Congregation Beth El and their support for the San Diego Jewish Academy. Alan is President of Beth El, as well as Immediate Past President of the Academy. Andrew is active with Technion—Israel Institute of Technology, serving both as local ATS chapter chairman and as a Distinguished Visiting Professor on campus. Caryn is President of Agency for Jewish Education and a Board member of San Diego Center for Jewish Culture. Their dedication to Jewish learning is further illustrated by a continuing commitment to the San Diego Jewish Book Fair. They are also involved in many other Jewish organizations including the UJF, Hadassah, Jewish Family Service, of which Audrey and Valerie are Board members, and the Jewish Community Foundation, of which Andrew is Immediate Past President. The UJF Building is named in memory of Erna's parents, Joseph and Lenka Finci. The venue for the San Diego Jewish Book Fair is reached through the Viterbi Family Galleria in the JCC....

Fall/Winter 2005—Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego, "Generations of Giving: Dor L'Dor in Action," Philanthropy News Quarterly, page 1: On behalf of the Viterbi Family Foundation, Aaron Smargon, 16, visited the Kid City program at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. He then presented a program recommendation to the Foundation Board leading to a grant being awarded. "Aaron was able to provide us with a unique perspective of how young people would view the exhibit. We then relayed these recommendations to the Fleet Center, maximizing our impact on the program," noted Aaron's grandfather, Andrew Viterbi. "Now Aaron attends Foundation meetings when appropriate, joining in our discussions and providing important insights.
