October 1949—"San Diego
B'nai B'rtih Women," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: At the last
meeting held by the San Diego B'nai B'rith Women two weeks ago, the main order
of business was election of officers for the coming year. Elected to guide
this new organization for the next twelve months are the following ladies:
President, Mrs. Harold Garvin; 1st vice-president, Mrs. David Schloss; 2nd vice
president, Mrs. Sidney Rose; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Victor Weiss;
recording secretary, Mrs. Stanley Yukon, and treasurer, Mrs. Rose Sloane.
Trustees are Mesdames E. Max Cohen, Rose Abrams and Eva Berger. The post
of Sentinel and Guard are held by Mrs. Jennie Turner and Mrs. Dorothy Deutch.
Counselor is Mrs. Herman Tuluchinsky. The presentation of a Charter and
installation of these new officers will be held in the near future. At the next
meeting, which will be held Monday evening, October 10 at 8:00 p.m., in Tifereth
Israel, committee chairmen will be appointed.

January 13, 1950—"San
Diego Bay City Bnai Brith," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: The
newly organized chapter of the San Diego Bay City B'nai B'rith women will hold
its first institution and installation of officers on Sunday, January 29th, in
the Don Room of the El Cortez Hotel. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the
installation of officers immediately following the dinner will be conducted by
an officer of the Grand Lodge. Those to be installed are as follows: Mrs.
Harold Garvin, President; Mrs. David Schloss, 1st Vice-Pres.; Mrs. Sidney Rose,
2nd Vice Pres.; Mrs. Stanley Youkon (sic, Yukon), Recording Secretary; Mrs.
Victor Weiss, Corresponding Sec.; Miss Sadie Rothenberger, Financial Sec.;
Mrs. Rose Sloane, Treasurer; Mrs. Tom Turner, Guardian; Mrs. Charles Deutch,
Sentinal; Mrs. Rose Abrahams; Mrs. Eva Berger and Mrs. E. Max Cohen as a
trustees. In the month of November, our ladies made it possible for a
carton of soap to be sent through "Care," to needy children in Europe.
It is one of B'nai B'rith women's pleasures to take part and give loyal support
to all worthy causes. Our membership Chairman, Mrs. Sidney Rose, at T. 1-7586,
will extend a cordial welcome to all ladies who are interested in joining our
activities. The pre-installation dinner is open to all who wish to participate
at the complete price of $2.75. The David Barker Quintet will provide dinner
music. Dinner reservations are being taken by Mrs. David Schloss at J-2825 and Mrs.
Victor Weiss at T. 1-4571.
January 27, 1950—The San Diego Bay City B'nai B'rith women will hold
its first institution and installation of officers on Sunday, January 29th, in
the Don Room of the El Cortez Hotel. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the
institution and installation of officers will be conducted by Mrs. Bernard
Lavine, president of B'nai B'rith womens Grand Lodge No. 4 and Mrs. Max Kudler,
second vice president of B'nai B'rith womens Grand Lodge. Assisting will be Miss
Evelyn Maron, president of the Wilshire Chapter; Mrs. Louis Kash, Chapter
expansion chairman of the Grand Lodge and Miss Polly Davidson, executive
secretary of the Grand Lodge. The following committee in charge is
extending every effort to make this affair one of the outstanding events of the
year: Mrs. Sideny Kaufman, institution and installation; Mrs. David Schloss,
dinner and reservations; Mrs. Tom Turner, decorations and corsages; Mrs. George
Stanley, entertainment and Mrs. Victor Weiss invitations. This
chapter which now is to be instituted had its beginning on May 3, 1949 when a
group of six women met in the hope of forming another chapter of B'nai B'rith
women to meet the local need. The San Diego chapters of B'nai B'rith women work
with Hillel, anti-defamation, B'nai B'rith Youth organizations, Boy Scouts
and participation in all civic and community projects. Soap to the needy
children of Europe through "Care" has recently been sent by this
Chapter, help with the Chest X-Ray Campaign and the current March of Dimes is
receiving solid support. The San Diego Bay City B'nai B'rith women extend a
cordial welcome to all who are interested in attending the dinner, institution
and installation of officers. Reservations are being taken by Mrs. David
Schloss, J-2825 and Mrs. Victor Weiss, T-4571. The welcoming address will
be given by Councilman Charles Dail. Dinner music will be provided by the David
Barker Quintet. Following the institution and installation of officers the
evening will be devoted to dancing.

January 19, 1951—"Rites
Held for Max S. Ferber," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6:
Max S. Ferber, 74, beloved father of Benjamin Ferber and Lillian Weiss, both of
this city, died in a local hospital on January 10. Services were held January 12
at the Merkeley-Austin Mortuary with Rabbi Morton J. Cohn officiating. Interment
was at the Home of Pace Cemetery.
August 17, 1951—"Bay City B.B.," Southwestern Jewish
Press, page 4: The 3rd Annual Membership luncheon will be held on Wednesday,
Aug. 22nd, at 12:30 at the home of Mrs. Joseph Medak, 4817 Oregon Street. Mrs.
Victor Weiss, chairman, has arranged for an afternoon of surprises as well as a
guest speaker from L.A. All women of the community are invited and are urged to
call T-4571 for further information....
September 14, 1951—"Bay City Bnai Brith Women, Chapt. 713," Southwestern
Jewish Press, page 7: San Diego Bay City Chapter is proud to announce the
District appointments of Mrs. David Suguarman as a member of the Southern Area
Anti-Defamation League Committee and Anti-Defamation League coordinator for the
San Diego area, and Mrs. Harold Garvin as the chairman of the Hillel
Counsellorship at San Diego state College. Good luck to both. Mrs. David
Schloss has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the House of Pacific

October 12, 1951—1)"San Diego Bay
City B'nai B'rith Women," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: At a
most impressive ceremony 24 new members were initiated into the Bay City
Chapter. The class, named after Mrs. Harold Garvin, Charter President, presented
her with a scroll bearing their signatures and Mrs. Victor Weiss, chairman of
the evening, presented her with a beautifully bound scrapbook. Mrs. Garvin then
presented to the chapter through Mrs. David Schloss, President, the newly framed
charter...

March 21, 1952—"Bay City B.B.
Women," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: Newcomers,
attention please! On Monday, March 24th, 8:15 p.m. at the Tifereth Israel
Synagogue, 30th and Howard Sts., the Bay City7 Women will hold a Fun-nite
honoring their members and welcoming you as newcomers to the community. Mrs.
Victor Weiss, chairman of the evening urges all of you to come and to feel free
to call her at Talbot 1-4571 for further information. The Bay City Chapter meets
on the 2nd and 4th Monday evening of the month and welcomes at all meetings,
guests, prospective members and women of the community...
May 30, 1952—"Tifereth Israel Sisterhood," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 8: Tifereth Israel Sisterhood's final meeting, before the summer recess, will be on tuesday, June 10th at 11:30 when Mrs. Sidney Newman and her corps of hostesses will serve a most delectable brunch, a wide variety of foods to choose from, and plenty of it. Mrs. Monroe Levens, program chairman for this happy event, has planned a novel and inspiring Biblical Installation. Rabbi Monroe Levens will install the following for the year 1952-1953. Members of theBoard: Mesdames Moe Berlin, Irving Goodman, Moe Hershey, Celia Jacobs, William Moss, Rose Mackall, Sidney Naliboff, Abe Ratner, Herman Sarfan, Dave Schloss, Sam Sklar, Sam Solomon. Following the installation, cellist Eugene Sacks, member of the San Diego Philharmonic and of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, accompanied at the piano by Irene Urner, will give several selections. April 27, 1989--"Tifereth Israel
Honors Lillian Weiss," San Diego Jewish Times, p. 58: On Feb.
17, Tifereth Israel Sisterhood presented the "1989 Woman of Valor"
award to Lillian Weiss in recognition of her many years of dedication and
devotion to the sisterhood and the synagogue. Weiss came to San Diego in 1942
after her marriage to Victor Weiss. They joined Tifereth Israel Synagogue when
it was situated at 18th and Market Streets, and she became a charter member of
the sisterhood in 1948 at the location at Howard and 30th Streets in North
Park. In 1960 she entered San Diego State University where she received
her teaching credentials. She taught in the San Diego City Schools and in
1966 began a new career as public relations director of Pacific College of
Medical and Dental Assistants. She retired in 1984. Weiss held many
executive board positions for Tifereth Israel Sisterhood. She was program
chair for many years, corresponding secretary, Ways and Means chair and then
president of the sisterhood in 1970. She is currently one of three
presidents of the presidium of the sisterhood. The presentation was made by
Belle Kleinberg, who was last year's recipient of the award.
