As retold by
Bruce Lowitt
Hymie applies for a job as a lumberjack. The boss looks at Hymie's 5-foot-4,
117-pound, 87-year-old body and laughs.
"Can you even pick up an axe?" the boss asks.
"Just give me a chance."
The boss shakes his head, hands Hymie an axe and says, "See those giant
redwoods over there? Go chop down the biggest one."
Five minutes later, Hymie is back.
"Done," he says. "Sorry I took so long."
The boss looks and, sure enough, a 300-foot redwood is lying on the ground.
The boss is stunned.
"Whoa! Where'd you learn to do that?"
"The Sahara Forest," Hymie says.
"You mean the Sahara Desert."
"Sure, that's what they call it now."
