Honored by Ner Tamid Synagogue, San Diego, May 31, 2006

Carole Leblang was honored by Ner Tamid North County Conservative/Masorti Synagogue on February 22, 2005, as the first annual Volunteer of the Year for 2004.  This prestigious honor came as a huge surprise to Carole, a synagogue member since 1997, as she was presented with a framed certificate at a Shabbat service surrounded by her husband, Marty, children Randy and Dava, son-in-law Aaron and grandchildren Jessica and Aaron.

Carole, who is normally at the forefront of Ner Tamid’s kitchen activity, was told that she would not be making the Kiddush for that Shabbat, nor would she be allowed in the kitchen.  It was explained to her that the service and Kiddush were to honor all of the wonderful volunteers, and, therefore, they were not “allowed” to work.

A plaque was made to honor Ner Tamid’s Volunteer of the Year in perpetuity, to be affixed to a prominent place in the new building with a new plate to be added each year with the honoree’s name.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to an individual who is not a member of the board or management team, but who has a proven record of dedication and outstanding service to the synagogue.

When asked how she felt about being the first recipient of this award, Carole replied, “I am honored and overwhelmed to be considered for this award.  This synagogue is my second home and family and I will continue to do whatever I can for the good of the community.”
