November 12, 1987 -- "Bat Mitzvahs: Hilary Rose Gumbiner," San Diego Jewish Times, p. 7:  Hilary Rose Gumbiner will become Bat Mitzvah on Nov.l 28 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue.  Rabbi Aaron Gold and Cantor Joseph Lutman will officiate. Hilary will read both Torah and Haftarah prtions and will participate in the mincha and havdallah services.  Joining Hilary on the bimah will be her parents, Steven and Judith Gumbiner; her grandmother, Ruth Gumbiner, and aunts and uncles, Marlene and Mark Gumbiner, Gorden and Anne Ney, and Paul Gottlieb. Out of town guests will include family from New York, Florida, Iowa, Arizona, San Francisco and Los Angeles.  Hilary's brother Scott, 7, will also share in the joy of her celebration. Hilary is a graduate of the San Diego Jewish academy and is now an eighth grader at Lewis Junior High School. Last year she attended Parkway Junior High where she was a finalist for the "Outstanding Seventh-Grade Student" award.  Hilary enjoys tap and jazz dancing and is a member of Tifereth Israel's youth chorale. She plans to become an actress and a teacher.
