Children's Theatre Ought To Be Encouraged—Watched our Day Campers at the Recital Hall in Balboa Park a week ago, with open mouths, they found themselves in a world of fantasy portrayed by the Childrens Players of the Globe Theatre. This type of children's activity certainly ought to be encouraged in our city instead of meeting with silence in our local press. It is an important phase of our cultural activity and there just isn't enough of it. We had 96 children there plus their counselors and I guess that we were more than half the attendance. The show was excellently done and all of our children enjoyed it.

Giving While Living—"I believe in giving while living." That creed is the statement of Mrs. Louis Blaustein when she made her million dollar gift to the Jewish Medical Center of Baltimore Federation. In explaining her huge contribution for the erection of an obstetrical and gynecological building, Mrs. Blaustein said she was doing so in the memory of her late husband, an outstanding industrialist and philanthropist. I guess there aren't any San Diegans who could really give that size gift. Perhaps more of us will begin to realize that in a smaller way, they can follow that creed by giving locally through the San Diego Federation of Jewish Agencies. There are many unmet needs, which could be served by "giving while living."  Already two such gifts have been made for local use. The Federation hopes that lawyers and accountants will encourage the giving of charitable contributions locally.

Jewish Unity —September is just around the bend. With it, the Jewish community of San Diego re-awakens and organizations, which have curtailed their activities during the summer come out of the caves in which they have hibernated.  Unfortunately, with the reawakening of community activities comes competition, a fight for existence, and all of the other things which this creates. We all recognize that there are divisive forces in our community, as well as in other communities, which operate to destroy the essential harmony and unity of the Jewish people, both on the national scene and in the local areas. Unity today amongst Jews is more important than ever before, and those who create diversions in the community should be considered fifth columnists.
