The affair has been arranged by the Kaders' nephew, Sheldon Tamkin, and his wife Judy. Sharing in the joy of celebration will be the Kaders' children and grandchildren, Errol (Bud) and Harriet Kader, and their children, Steven and Arlyn; and Sheldon Kader and his children, Mitchell and Daniell.  Joe and Hannah also have two great-grandchildren, Brandon Kader ( 2 1/2) and Arrianne Kader (1).  Joe and Hannah have known each other since they were infants. They grew up together and fell in love.  "We were kissing cousins," says Joe, "and our mothers put us in the crib together when we were babies."  Joe and Hannah were married on Jan. 20, 1924, in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. At that time Joe was known as Joey Karel on the vaudeville circuit and he sang, danced, and joked his way across the country with many of the notables of the day. "Hannah toured with me in one act," Joe said, "but a Burns and Allen we weren't."  Joe gave up his stage career and took a job with Armour and Company, and the Kaders moved to Milwaukee. After two years in his hometown, the Kaders were again on the move, and Joe because the San Diego County representative for Rath Packing Company. During the war years, Joe owned Buddy's Naval Tailors. In 1952, he was hired by Bernard Food Industries and traveled throughout California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona.  He was retired after 24 years. "I got too old," he said, "and they let me go."  Joe was 75 years old.  The Kaders have been active in the local community. Joe served on the board of directors of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and as hose chairman (executive director).  Hannah did volunteer work in the synagogue office and is a life member of the sisterhood.  She was also the manager and one of the founders of the Tifereth Israel Gift Shop. Joe and Hannah's sons became bar mitzvah at Tifereth Israel Synagogue; Sheldon at the 18th Street shul and Bud at the shul at 30th and Howard Streets. Bud's son, Steven, became Bar Mitzvah at Tifereth Israel's current location on Cowles Mountain Boulevard. Joe is also active in Masonic affiliated organizations.  He is a member of Blackmer Lodge, Scottish Rite and Al Bahr Shrine.  Joe has used his talents of the vaudeville days to entertain at many, many activities. "I miss the stage," he said.  "I can still telll 'em (jokes) and I can still make them laugh.  Now I write poetry."

December 16, 2005—Bud Kader to Donald H. Harrison (e-mail): Don, Keep up the good work because as you do thoughts and historical insights keep popping up from the depths of my memory.  i.e. when you mentioned Baruch Stern [in a recent San Diego Jewish Times column] I recalled my father telling me he was so proud to have been one of the original signers (sponsors) to bring him here from Europe. Just a little tidbit, I thought you would find interesting.  Best Wishes, Bud
