March 5, 1987—
"Woodland Planted in Israel in Memory of Louise Schiff," San Diego Jewish Times, p.36:  A woodland of 2,000 trees will be planted in Israel in memory of Louise Joy Schiff by her mother, Rose Schiff, and her family. The trees will be located in the Challenger Forest, a project established by the Jewish National Fund in the American Independence Park near Jerusalem. this forest was established in memory of seven Challenger astronauts.  Mrs. Schiff and her family selected the Challenger Forest because Louise died during the same week as the Challenger tragedy.  On Jan. 18 there was an unveiling of Louise's stone.  Lt. Col. Yossi Urman of Jerusalem attended on behalf of the Jewish National Fund.  He made a formal presentation of the Woodland plaque to Mrs. Schiff and her family.  Urman spoke about the many young lives Israel has lost and the sympathy he felt for Louise's untimely death. He noted the beautiful symbolism of the trees planted in Israel as a memorial to Louise Joy Schiff, who loved plants nd nature and who was strongly committed to the building of a better, more peaceful world.
