December 2005—1) "Tribute," Shofar (senior newsletter, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacobs Family campus), page 8....Happy 100th Birthday Laura Simon (Nov. 26)!

2) "Long-Time Scripps Patient Turns 100," Around La Jolla Scripps, monthly newsletter, page 11: Nov. 26 was a milestone event in Scripps La Jolla patient, Laura Simon's life—she turned 100 years old. The award winning writer and artist kicked up her heels at a party given by the Senior Center at the University City Jewish Community Center, celebrating her journey of a lifetime. When asked for tips on living to 100, Ms. Simon said, "It's not easy. Aging is not easy." She equates the journey to Shakespeare's seven stages of life, beginning life in infancy, going through the stages of growth until one goes full circle back into infancy.  And in response to a request to share a secret about her, she replied, "I know who I am. There are no more secrets."

December 18, 2005—Laura Simon to Donald H. Harrison, telephone conversation:  Laura was born November 26, 1905.  Her name was Laura Walshok, but early in life she took the name of her stepfather and became Laura Silverberg.  Raised in Chicago, she was very poor.  In June of 1926 she was married to Emanuel Simon. They lived in the Chicago area until 1979 when they moved to San Diego. Her husband died just six months later. She has two children: Mayo Simon and Sydelle Dickterman.
