| Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) has been selected by her peers to chair the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which raises funds for the
party's candidates in congressional elections.
She is the first woman to hold the post, which will be key to the Democrats'
efforts in the 2002 election to win control of the House of Representatives,
in which Republicans now have a 10-seat majority. --
