Jewish license plate

SPANISH AND HEBREW—In San Diego, Melanie Rubin spotted this license plate which combines two languages to come up for an affectionate term for a car, "My Sweetie." We'll add it to our own-line collection of Jewish license plates, and invite you to send other Jewish flavored license plate pictures to us at editor@sandiegojewishworld.com

Moms for Israel plan taco and margarita party on August 5

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)—Jewish National Fund's chapter in San Diego will host from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, a "tacos and margaritas" party celebrating the second year of the "Moms for Israel" grass roots movement.

The party is to raise funds to help equip and staff programs at the Sderot Indoor Recreation Center, a rocket-proof facility to which young and old can "come in out of the rain" of Kassam missiles from the neighboring Gaza Strip.

Debbie Seid, event organzer, said each $500 raised can send a child to summer camp for one week. "These children could be our children and they are the future of Israel," she said. "What could be a more worthy cause? I hope you will join me, as mothers in the U.S. reach across the ocean, understanding as only women can, how much relief we can give the mothers of Sderot by helping their children smile."

Besides food and drink, the $36 per person party will offer for sale custom jewelry by Trudy James, original greeting cards by Char Allen, Judaica from Israel provided by Na'ama Rivel, and JNF invitations for such simchas as weddings and b'nai mitzvot provided by Lauren Lizerbram.

To RSVP call (949) 260-0400 or email hermine@360connection.com

Brodsky wrote in a flyer circulating in the Jewish community. "Signs and flags will also be provided for those who do not bring them.:

Following the 90-minute walk, a half-hour rally is planned. Later that evening, CUFI will present "A Night to Honor Israel."

PWI clients help U.S. soldiers
stay hydrated on battlefield

SAN DIEGO—Mark Berger, president and chief executive officer of Partnerships With Industry, says his company's clients--adults with developmental disabilities--often feel a strong sense of pride when they see television coverage of American soldiers on duty in rugged areas of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yes, it is patriotic pride, but it is also prompted by a sense of accomplishment--those Camelbak hands-free hydration systems that the soldiers wear on their backs are assembled by PWI clients.

According to Berger, one can see workers with disabilities "inserting the pack's bladder, hose, and retaining ring."

He said that the packs are "picked up by one of PWI's three delivery trucks, assembled and delivered promptly back to Camelbak."

Berger added that "PWI clients make between 2,500 and 5,000 packs per day. Our clients love the Camelbak project - they have assembled 750,000 packs over the past four years."

Partnerships With Industry is a non-profit organization, whose business development director, Brian Garback, can be reached at outsourcing@pwiworks.org for information on "how PWI can provide cost-effective outsourcing solutions for your labor-intensive, hand-work projects- both large and small."
