Eleanor Addleson
Wed To Emilio Urcis

Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953 Page 4

Mr. and Mrs. Moss Addleson announce the marriage of their daughter Eleanor, to Emilio Urcis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Urcis of Los Angeles. The ceremony took place on Sept. 20 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue. Rabbis Monroe Levens and N. I. Addleson of Los Angeles officiated beneath a canopy of white carnations. The pulpit was decorated with baskets of white gladioli and carnations and the aisles were banked with baskets of carnations and greena bells.

The bride was gowned in an antique lace over white satin. Her fingertip length veil of illysion lace fell from a coronet headdress of seed pearls. She carried a Bible covered with white orchids and wore a family heirloom pearl necklace.
Maid of honor, Charlotte Pearl, and bridesmaids Olga Addleson, Ida Urcis, Thelma Finkel, wore ballerina length pastel gowns of nylon net over taffeta.

Ruben Urcis served his brother as best man. Ushers were Ernie Addleson, brother of the bride; Sam Urcis, and Werner Dreyfus.

A reception and buffet for 400 guests immediately following the ceremony was held at the Tifereth Israel Center. The bride’s mother received in pink organza embroidered in seed pearls and the groom’s mother wore black lace and pink chiffon.

Upon their return from a honeymoon in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, the newlyweds will make their home in Los Angeles.
Out of town guests included Thelma Finkel of Berkeley and about 50 relatives and friends from Los Angeles.

Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953 Page 5

Here is one young lady that is going to help the morale of at least one soldier. Mrs. Samuel Krasner (Roanne Tepper) left for Bremerhaven, Germany by plane on Sept. 30th to join her husband who is stationed there. She will have a lot to report when she returns home at the end of two years.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Godes wish to thank their many friends for their kindnesses during Mr. Godes’ recent illness.

Below the Border

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Greenbaum and Mr. and Mrs. Jules Schwitkis left by plane today for Mexico City. They expect to cover all the high spots during their 2½ week vacation trip.

Lucky Visitor

Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953, Page 5

A new member has been added to the Louis Moorsteen household—a full grown lady of 16. Miss Avia Moorsteen of Ramat Gan, Israel arrived last Sunday to spend the next year or two with her aunt and uncle. Esther and Lou met Avia for the first time when they visited in Israel four years ago.

Avia was met in New York by Pat and Dick Moorsteen and will soon meet her other cousins, Betty and Leonard Slater, who have just arrived home from China.

Go to the top of right column

Esther was hostess to her Minyan last Tuesday and Avia drew the lucky number held by Mrs. Zel Greenberg that won the lovely stole made by Shirley Rebuf. Mrs. Louis Stitzel raised $100.00 for the Youth Aliyah by selling chances on the stole made by her sister.

Al and Rose Mark 40th
Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953 Page 5

Mr. and Mrs. Al Neumann were entertained by the Jolly Sixteen in the home of the Carl Esenoffs to mark their 40th wedding anniversary. After many reminiscences by members of the group, a beautiful copper chafing dish was presented the “young couple.”

Highland Springs
Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953 Page 5

Mrs. Harry Bied and Mrs. Jennie Picker, owners of the Bay City Liquor stores, spend their vacation at Highland Springs each year, staying at least two months enjoying the fine cuisine and excellent facilities of the resort. They were visited during their stay by Mrs. Bied’s son and daughter-in-law and their family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Vetter.

The Platt pool and pool-side patio were the scenes of gayety not usually associated with blood-thirsty pirates, when the Edward Platts and the Sam Siratons entertained 220 “pirates” at cocktails and buffet on Sept. 13. Maybe it was the pirate costumes worn by the guests that encouraged many to “walk the plank”—diving board, that is.

Hi, all you “Double Talk” readers—busy with homework, huh? Well, here’s what’s been happening around San Diego.
Saying Happy Birthday to Donna Godes on her 16th birthday were: Darreld Kitaen, Bernie Sosna, Chuck Fagelson, Lenny Bloom, Burt Sharpe, Don Byrnes, Ernie Addleson, Bob Beck, Warren Gulko, Dick Gode;s, Joel Mogy, Natalie Veitzer, Beverly Kitaen, Gail Kahn, Sherry Newman, Deanne Brown, Jane Cohn, Beverly Addleson, Bobby Glickman, Carol Fischer, Joyce Addleson, Gerry Solomon, and Sheila Lipin. “A crazy time” was the comment given.

The clubs are in full swing again. U.S.Y., formerly Y.P.L., has elected their officer for the coming year. We congratulate: David Levens, President; Bob Meyers, V.P.; Sandy Ratner, 2nd V.P.; Maxine Schoenkopf, Recording Sec.; Roger Brenes, Corresponding Sec.; Seymour Pomeranz, Treasurer; and Larry Cantor, Sergeant-at-Arms. Temple Sisterhood Las Vegas Trip
Southwestern Jewish Press October 2, 1953 Page 6

Now it can be told, just what Sisterhood meant with all those teasing notices about a free trip to Las Vegas. Here is the answer to all those ???’s.

Those who attended the hilarious breakfast-brunch heard something about it, but for the rest, here are all the details.

Some lucky person is going to win a five day, all expense trip for two to Las Vegas. That includes transportation, hotels and just everything for you and your best beau. All you have to do for yourself is to have a wonderful time, and who could help doing that at Las Vegas?

Jane Lustig, Ethel Pogrell, Dora Eber, Rose Greenbaum and Sally Ratner are co-chairman of this event and have the tickets all ready. Each chance is just one dollar and the drawing will be held at a gala Las Vegas night party at the Temple Center on January 27th, winner need not be present.

More about that affair later, but be sure to get your tickets now. Get in on the ground floor and be a winner. Just call any of the co-chairmen and they will send them to you.
