Emerald urges Schwarzenegger to sign bill to study new CSU campus

SAN DIEGO—City Councilmember Marti Emerald is urging the Governor to support a third California State University campus in the San Diego area.

In a letter to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emerald asked him to sign Assembly Bill 24. The Bill written by San Diego Assemblyman Marty Block would require the Trustees of the California State University System to conduct a feasibility

study for a CSU campus in Chula Vista. The Bill is now sitting on the Governor’s desk.

Councilmember Emerald says, “A third CSU campus is crucial to relieving overcrowding at San Diego State University and creating new educational opportunities for students in the South Bay area.”

If signed by the Governor, AB 24 would require that the feasibility study be privately funded and completed by January 1, 2011.
