Something To Be
Proud Of (Editorial)

Southwestern Jewish Press November 27, 1953 Page 2

The report of the city’s social service department on fund raising indicates that the United Jewish Fund Campaign shows the lowest cost of all drives in this community.  The Chest with the largest sum raised last year, $747,097, cost 5.1 percent.

The American Red Cross, $449,500 at 4.4 percent, National Foundation for Infantile Paralyses, $262,947 at 4.6 percent:  then the United Jewish Fund, $198.458 at 3.5 percent.

We take particular pride in two aspect of this report.  First that the cost of our campaign is the lowest in the entire city and second that we are fourth in the amount of monies raised by fund drives.

The low cost of the campaign is due to our many volunteers who feel it is their duty to help our brethren overseas and to our sense of obligation to the Jewish Community of America.

We also strive to preserve and improve our local institutions that serve our youth and elder citizens.  It is traditional with us to care for our own.  As much as we approve and support other organizations and institutions in the city, we still feel the need of distinctly Jewish services.

The Board of Directors of the Fund and especially the campaign workers deserve our thanks and commendation for their efforts in keeping the cost down.  But one should not overlook the Fund office and the executive director to whom a great deal of the credit should go.  He and his staff should be properly proud of their record.  Hats off the them all!
